Odessa Police Make 2 Arrests in Connection to Shooting Investigation

TYPE OF INCIDENT: Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon “2nd Degree Felony”
DATE/TIME REPORTED: April 14, 2018 at approximately 1230 hours
LOCATION: 12th & Alleghaney
Odessa Police have made two arrests and are still searching for a third suspect in connection to a shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon at 12th and Alleghaney. Joey Maldonado, date of birth 03/30/1992 and Steve Douglas, date of birth 11/29/1970, have both been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon “2nd Degree Felony”.
On April 14, 2018 at approximately 1230 hours, Odessa Police responded to 12th and Alleghaney in reference to shots being fired. Upon arrival, officers made contact with 30-year-old Aldo Luna, who advised that he had been involved in a disturbance with three male subjects, identified as Steve Douglas, Joseph Douglas and Joey Maldonado.
Investigation revealed that Steve Douglas and Joseph Douglas displayed firearms and Steve Douglas told Maldonado to kill Luna. Maldonado then produced a firearm and began shooting at Luna, striking him once in the head. Luna then fled the scene while Steve Douglas and Joseph Douglas chased after him.
Luna sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident and was not transported to the hospital. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, OPD detectives obtained warrants for all three subjects. Joey Maldonado and Steve Douglas have both been arrested.
