September 29th to October 4th 2008
One of the goals of the Odessa Police Department is a motoring public which is safe, courteous and accident free. In pursuit of this goal, the Department will begin to periodically designate “safe zones” throughout the city. These “safe zones” are areas
in which traffic enforcement will be increased in an effort to gain traffic law compliance. “Safe zones” will be announced the week prior to enforcement action being taken. Expect to see officers of the Odessa Police Department working these areas singly
or in groups in an effort to gain compliance through education and enforcement.
Officers working “safe zones” will be enforcing all traffic laws but will pay close attention to red light, stop sign, speeding and other moving violations.
The “safe zones” we would like our motoring public to be aware of for the next week are the 5200 Block E. 42nd, the 1000 to 2200 Block of Golder. The Traffic Units will concentrate on all School Zones, Crosswalks and Schools Buses while loading and unloading children.
Please take note of this “safety zone” and remind your family and friends we will be taking enforcement action in this area next week. By working together and obeying the law, perhaps we can reduce traffic accidents, injuries and fatalities by making our
streets safer places on which to drive.
