Corporal Steve LeSueur is the Communications Officer for the Odessa Police Department and is assisted by Andrea Goodson, Public Information Coordinator for the City of Odessa. The Communications Officer reports directly to the Chief of Police and serves as the official Department spokesperson for the media and in all matters pursuant to other types of inquiries from various sources. 

The Communications Officer's primary responsibility is to ensure the appropriate release of information to the news media in accordance with the Texas Open Records Act and departmental regulations. The release of information is handled in a manner so as to respect the public's right to know and protect ongoing police investigations so that a potential criminal prosecution is not jeopardized. The Communications Officer also serves to assist at the scene of any major incident, handling media activities on site.

The Communications Officer is also responsible for maintaining the Department's web site and providing information about crime incidents, the Department, its functions, policies and procedures, programs, services, and related events. In addition, this officer staffs the media relations officer position at the City's Emergency Operation Center during critical incidents or major response operations.

Chief of Police, Timothy Burton, recognizes that an important and essential building block of a police agency is open communication with the public it serves. Chief Burton firmly believes this will ensure the confidence, respect and trust of the citizens of Odessa.

Under the Texas Open Records Act, certain information may be obtained from the Odessa Police Department. Open Records request must be submitted in writing; no request are accepted by telephone. An Open Records Request form is available to you in order to ensure all the required information is complete in order to process your request.
