Crimes Against Persons Unit  crimes

Comprised of a sergeant and six investigators, this unit investigates reported assault-type crimes, including assault, aggravated assault, sexual assault, child abuse/child endangerment, deadly conduct and missing persons. In the absence of the Metro-Homicide investigators, this unit also investigates homicide cases. Additionally, this unit is home to the Gang Suppression officer and the Juvenile Case Coordinator. These investigators gather information concerning gangs, their members and activities and make public presentations to various groups to increase awareness of these issues. All cases involving juveniles are reviewed by these officers and proper referrals are made to inject the case into the juvenile justice system.
 
 
Crimes Against Property crimes

Burglary Unit
The Burglary Unit consists of a sergeant and five investigators. The unit activity investigates cases involving unlawful entry into homes, businesses, buildings, and vehicles. In addition, one investigator is tasked with pawn shop investigations and juvenile case coordination.

Larceny Unit
The Larceny Unit supervisor oversees four detectives who investigate theft, fraud, forgery, embezzlement, and criminal mischief cases.

All Crimes Against Property detectives are cross trained to assist in investigating major crimes such as homicide and robbery.

Crisis Intervention Unit crimes
The Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) is comprised of three sergeants and eleven negotiators.  CIU's goal is to mitigate barricaded, suicidal person, or hostage taking situations to a peaceful conclusion through professional negotiation skills, lessening the risk to citizens and law enforcement personnel. 
 
Metro-Homicide Unit  homicide

This is a multi-agency unit that is comprised of a sergeant and an investigator from the Odessa Police Department, a full time secretary from the Ector County District Attorney’s Office, a representative of the Ector County Medical Examiner’s Office, a Texas Ranger, and an officer from the Ector County Sheriff’s Department. This unit is responsible for the investigations of all homicide cases with the City of Odessa and Ector County. They conduct on-scene and follow-up investigations of current homicide cases, as well as continuing investigations in older, unsolved cases.
