Maintaining and increasing the quality of the Odessa Police Department is an ongoing challenge and the Chief believes that training is a vital component in any professional organization. Therefore, he oversees all aspects of training.

The training sergeant is responsible for carrying out the chief's directions and maintaining requirements mandated by the Texas Commission on Police Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE). The training sergeant also directs and trains police cadets and recruits.

Quite often outside agencies participate in the training offered here at the Department and in some cases use our facilities in a cooperative effort. Other city departments also utilize the training facility for classes.

The Training Coordinator and the Media Relations Officer are also responsible for conducting the Citizens Police Academy classes.
