The Training Unit of the Odessa Police Department is responsible for coordinating the in-service training of all members of the department. The sergeant who fills this position is also responsible for supervising the Media Relations Officer and the Police Cadets.

Training classes are  conducted in most cases to meet minimum training requirements mandated by the Texas Commission on Police Officer Standards and Education. Some classes are intended to further an officer’s career and job knowledge and job knowledge and some are intended to prepare an officer or employee for a new position. In addition, other city departments utilized the training facility for classes.

The Training Coordinator and the Media Relations Officer are also responsible for conducting the Citizens Police Academy classes.
