Training Staff includes Assistant Training Coordinator Deborah DeVolin, Academy Training Sergeant Tommy Jones, Firearms Training Sergeant/Range Master Carlos Chavez, and Background Investigator Corporal Marshall Williams

The Training Unit is responsible for providing professional development and maintaining training requirements mandated by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) by providing continuous in-service training and strict adherence to standards during sessions of the Odessa Police Academy.

All sworn officers of the Odessa Police Department undergo the annual firearms training mandated by TCOLE. In addition, officers regularly train with de-escalation, less-than-lethal alternatives to force, and defensive tactics.
