Robbery / Homicide Unit

The Robbery/Homicide Unit is responsible for the investigation of all major crimes in which an individual is the victim; these include cases involving murder, robbery, and major assaults. The Unit also investigates suspicious deaths, missing persons, and devotes a great deal of time to working cold cases.

Staff & Agency Collaboration

The Robbery/Homicide Unit consists of 1 sergeant and 4 investigators. Investigators in the Robbery/Homicide Unit are on call status 24 hours a day and have been called to assist the:

  • Ector County Sheriff's Office
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
  • Patrol Division of the Odessa Police Department
  • Texas Child Fatality Review Team
  • Texas Rangers
  • U.S. Marshals Service
  • Other outside agencies

The Unit works closely with Children's Protective Services, Adult Protective Services, and Harmony Home Child Victim's Advocacy Center in the investigation of cases involving children and adults alike.

West Texas Area Major Offender Task Force

The Criminal Investigation Division also has a detective who is assigned to the FBI under West Texas Area Major Offender Task Force (WAMO). The task force's goal is to assist in prosecuting offenders in order to control criminal gang activity through federal prosecution. The detective also assists other task forces such as the Oil Field Task Force and other federal agencies.
