Shots Fired Call Leads to Arrest of Man with Gun
Odessa Police arrested Omar Alejandro Venegas, date of birth 10/15/1997, on 3-10-20 for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (2nd Degree Felony”, Evading Arrest “Class A Misdemeanor”, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon “Class A Misdemeanor”, and Criminal Mischief “Class B Misdemeanor”. Officers responded to the 4400 block of Redbud in reference to shots being fired.
Investigation revealed that a male subject fired a round out the window of a vehicle. Officers arrived on scene and observed a male subject matching the suspect’s description, later identified as Venegas. Officers gave commands to Venegas to show his hands but he ignored the officers and began running northbound. Officers observed Venegas grab a handgun and throw it on the ground. The handgun was later recovered by officers.
A perimeter was setup and Venegas was eventually located and placed into custody with the assistance of a K9 unit. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Venegas was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. There no reports of any injuries.
