Citizen’s Arrest Leads to Arrest of Wanted Subject for Robbing Thrift Store
Odessa Police arrested Shawn Paul Melonakos, date of birth 08/21/1982, on 8-18-18 at approximately 1923 hours for Robbery “2nd Degree Felony”, Possession of Methamphetamine “State Jail Felony”, False Identification – Fugitive from Justice “Class A Misdemeanor”, and for a parole violation warrant.
Officers responded to 1611 East 8th Street (Door of Hope Thrift Store) in reference to a robbery. Investigation revealed that a male subject, later identified as Melonakos, took merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay. When the complainant confronted Melonakos about the stolen merchandise, Melonakos picked up a large rock and threatened him with it.
The complainant feared for his life and brandished a firearm before firing one round. The complainant and another male subject chased Melonakos to the area of Crescent and Beverly and detained him until officers arrived on scene. The suspect initially gave officers a false name and date of birth was eventually identified as Melonakos.
Investigation revealed that Melonakos had a parole violation warrant and officers found him to be in possession of methamphetamine. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Melonakos was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the ECLEC. There were no reports of any injuries.
