Odessa Police Investigating Car-Pedestrian Crash in North Odessa

SUMMARY:

An Odessa woman is in critical condition following a major crash that occurred yesterday morning in North Odessa.

On December 18, 2019 at approximately 0950 hours, Odessa Police and Odessa Fire Rescue responded to 42nd and Tom Green in reference to a major crash involving 2 vehicles and a pedestrian.

Investigation revealed that a blue Dodge Caravan, being operated by Renee Vincent, 54 years of age, was traveling eastbound on 42nd Street. A red Chevrolet Colorado, being operated by Dana Gonzalez, 23 years of age, was traveling westbound on 42nd Street attempting to turn southbound onto Tom Green.

A pedestrian, later identified as Abla Almaiah, 53 years of age, was attempting to walk eastbound across Tom Green at a crosswalk. Investigation revealed that Gonzalez failed to yield the right of way and was struck by the Dodge Caravan, causing the Chevrolet Colorado to then strike the pedestrian.

Almaiah was transported to a local hospital and later air-lifted to Lubbock with life-threatening injuries. Almaiah is currently listed as being in critical condition. There were no reports of any other injuries.

The investigation continues.
